June 2023 begins the Medi-Cal Redetermination under Senate Bill 260 in California, and there will be changes for people who were getting Medi-Cal during the Covid crisis. Now that the crisis is mostly behind us and the Federal Emergency has ended, it’s time to reassess your situation if you’ve been in Medi-Cal. This process will continue for the next 14 months as the transition takes place monthly.
Open your mail and see what the Department of Health Services has to say about your situation. If your income has changed or you have a new job, you might not qualify to stay in Medi-Cal. This is a Qualifying Event, and you may be eligible to come into the Group Insurance plan with your employer.
Some people are now eligible for tax subsidies within Covered CA and will be moved back to the Individual Health Insurance Market. You may get correspondence from Covered CA that needs to be addressed too.
Consumers must take action – in a relatively short 30-day timeframe to make decisions and set up their account with the Individual Insurance Carrier.
We hope that the Department of Health Services and Covered CA work together to move the consumer to an insured plan – that is the lowest cost silver plan in that zip code – when they are getting tax subsidies to help reduce the cost of their health insurance.
Even if your premium is highly subsidized you must still take action and log into your account at Covered CA to make an initial premium payment to the carrier.
